Hispanic Recruitment Initiative

Thanks to a generous gift from the Birmingham Foundation, in October 2008 the Catholic Schools Foundation instituted a program to increase Hispanic enrollment in the elementary and secondary Catholic schools in the city of Boston and various surrounding cities. This initiative seeks to provide Catholic Hispanic families with the tools to take advantage of the opportunities that are available through a Catholic education by offering extended support as well as scholarship aid to those students that are accepted and choose to attend a Catholic School within the city of Boston and surrounding towns.

Consider the facts....

• In Boston, Latino enrollment has steadily increased
with Latino students making up 37% of public
school attendants compared to just 9% in Boston
Catholic Schools in 2008-2009

• Most Hispanics agree that they would prefer to
send their children to a Catholic School.

• More than one quarter of Latino students that
start in 9th grade in MA public schools drop out of
school before graduation. That is, one out of
every four Hispanics do not graduate from Boston
Public Schools.

• The Hispanic Recruitment efforts of the ICSF
increased enrollment in Boston’s Catholic Schools
by 10% in the 2009-2010 school year.
